Being the last, and most powerful being in existence, it's only right for the snake to consume itself.
But it would never do that.
Destroying itself would bring an end to its reign. So instead, the snake waits. Its refusal to bring about its own end causes the world to descend even further into stagnancy. Having completed its goal, the snake simply persists, refusing to meet its natural end. People may protest, and people may beg, but without a true threat, the snake will not budge.
In cases like this, there is only one option.
